26 April 2007 Police dishing out notices to rogue motorists
Police in Scotland have warned that anti-social driving can lead to a person's car being impounded, it has been reported.According to the BBC, officers north of the border handed out seven fixed penalty notices in the space of one evening in Falkirk, with anti-social behaviour legislation resulting in dangerous drivers being punished.
It added that if a motorist were to be caught a second time within the space of 12 months, they face having their vehicle impounded - something that may have an effect on acar insurance policy.
On top of this, an anti-social driver's purse strings may be tightened further when they receive an initial £105 fine for being impounded, followed by £12 per day until it is removed.
"This legislation allows police to take vehicles off the road which are being driven in a careless and anti-social fashion, effectively making the roads safer," said sergeant Colin Harper.
This week is UN Global Road Safety Week, in which politicians worldwide are aiming to increase awareness of the damage caused by driving dangerously.
