24 April 2007 West Midland's villages look to slow down speeders

Revised speed limits will be imposed in dozens of villages in the Midlands in a bid to make local roads safer, it has been reported.

Lighthorne, Heath, Filongley and Stoneleigh will see 30 mph zones enforced, with other areas of Warwickshire set to follow suit, according to the Coventry Telegraph.

This comes as a result of Warwickshire County Council's review of village speed limits since 2002, which found that many areas in the region have taken positives from the introduction of new boundaries.

"I am very pleased to confirm that every village treated has benefited from a reduction in vehicle speeds," said project leader of the review, Katrina Pedlar.

Meanwhile, the Express & Star has reported that one in 20 UK motorists has been involved in an accident or a near-miss with a non-UK registered vehicle or non-UK registered driving licence holder.

Such activity may compromise a car insurance policy.
