24 April 2007 New measures to cut young driver deaths 'considered'
New rules and regulations regarding young drivers taking to the road are to be considered by police in Scotland, it has been reported.Tayside chief constable John Vine has stated that the next meeting of the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS) will see a plan of action against the problem formalised, according to the Courier
Underlining the urgency of the matter, the high-ranking officer claimed that there are twice as many road deaths as fatal stabbings every year, it added.
Now a hard line will be created in order to curb the problem, Mr Vine stated, which may have an affect on car insurance prices for new drivers.
"The ACPOS position on young drivers is going to be formulated at the next meeting and I’ve asked all the forces to come forward with views on what to do about young drivers," he said.
This week marks the first-ever UN Global Road Safety Week, running until April 29th 2007.
