23 April 2007 Police: Do not confront a burglar

East Anglia police have urged homeowners not to confront intruders if they break into their homes, it has been reported.

This follows an attempted robbery in Ipswich which led to a burglar being chased out of a house by a pensioner, according to the East Anglia Daily Times.

Joyce Lane, 74, from London Road, warded off an unknown intruder who walked into her living room on Thursday April 19th 2007.

While an unsuccessful break-in may not compromise all home insurance policies, investigating officer DC Jim Booth has told people not to follow Mrs Lane's example.

"Police would never encourage members of the public to put themselves at risk by confronting an intruder," he said.

Meanwhile, the Bridgwater Mercury has reported that a pub in Wembdon has also fallen victim to a burglary.

The thief took nearly £1,000 in cash on Tuesday April 17th 2007.
