23 April 2007 Aberdeen anti-social drivers face tough sanctions

Rogue motorists in Aberdeen will be up against tough new measures in order to keep them off the roads, it has been reported.

The first Interim Anti-Social Behaviour Order has been implemented by Aberdeen City Council in order to keep nuisance drivers from causing problems on highways in the region.

In accordance with the decision, the motorists will not be allowed to take to roads around Aberdeen Beach between 19:00 and 06:00 BST.

Councillor Martin Greig, chairman of Aberdeen's Community Safety Partnership, commented that the hard work that has gone into establishing the order will hopefully result in the activity being reduced.

A similar effect may be seen in car insurance prices in the region.

"I'm right behind this order and all the measures the police have taken to try and bring some peace," said Mr Greig.

A national day of action against young driver deaths is being staged by police in Scotland today, the BBC has reported.

It coincides with the UN's Road Safety Week, which will run until April 29th 2007.
