16 April 2007 Sunday road works leave travellers hot

Traffic chaos caused by road works on the M20 yesterday saw motorists sweat it out on the hottest day of the year, it has been reported.

While temperatures hit 80 degrees in the region yesterday, queues formed as drivers failed to finish off road works from the previous night, according to kentnews.co.uk.

Unfinished bridge maintenance near the junction 10 Ashford turn saw motorists stuck in their cars in the heat - without any warning, car insurance customers may be interested to know.

The Highways Agency has issued a statement apologising for the turn of events and the inconvenience caused.

"We haven't had a full explanation as to why the work has over-run but we will be investigating," it read.

According to the Press Association, temperatures in the UK this week will drop.

This comes after yesterday was recorded as the year's hottest day.
