The price of parking a car in the UK has risen by a quarter, according to new research. In addition to the 25 per cent overall increase, areas outside London have seen larger hikes, according to Direct Line.
The company cited Berhamsted, Hertfordshire as a particular example - its parking having jumped by 91 per cent between 2000 and 2006.
These charges may prove annoying to drivers who are already dishing out for road tax and car insurance.
Similarly, motorists caught parking illegally have been fined £425 million over the past two years, according to the Scotsman.
"If you are driving into a busy place it's worthwhile doing some research to find out about any park-and-ride schemes or any cheap car parks in advance as it could save you serious money," said Emma Holyer, motor spokesman for the organisation.
