10 April 2007 Exmouth boy-racer drivers crackdown announced
Police in Exmouth are looking to target nuisance drivers taking dangerous risks along the area’s seafront, it has been reported. This is the latest tactic in a Devon-wide scheme to rid the region of nuisance driving – often caused by those in souped-up boy-racer vehicles, according to the Mid Devon Star.
In order to catch out the motorists, Devon and Cornwall police officers will use video cameras and undercover patrols, it added.
Similarly, the constabulary will establish links with car insurance companies, in order to check that they have been made fully aware of the various vehicle alterations.
"There is a recognized problem and Exmouth is one of the towns we are highlighting. The motorists are putting themselves and other people in danger, with a flagrant disregard for the law," said Inspector Richard Price.
Statistics from the Department for Transport have revealed that 3,201 people in the UK were killed on the roads during 2005.
