05 April 2007 Wednesday is 'crashday'
With the Easter bank holiday weekend giving most people four days off work, Thursday may have never been so enjoyable. However, research from Accident Exchange has found evidence that Wednesday is the most dangerous day to be driving - perhaps making today even more of a relief.
The company analysed 30,000 collisions from last year and found that 17.8 per cent of accidents occurred on a Wednesday, compared to 15.8 per cent on a Friday.
Motorists should be reminded that an accident can invalidate a car insurance no-claims bonus.
It also produced results showing that the hour from 17:00 BST during March, April and May, was the one which accounted for the most road accidents.
Brian Gregory, chairman and founder of the Association of British Drivers, has attributed the figures for Wednesday to "midweek mini depression".
"Perhaps thoughts are not on the task of driving but thinking about last weekend or plans for the upcoming one," he said.
Earlier this year, the Association of British Drivers called for the raising of the motorway speed limit to 80 mph, in line with the rest of Europe.
