05 April 2007 Female drivers not as likely to suffer 'colour blindness'

Female drivers are less likely to be colour-blind than men, it has been reported.

PersonnelToday.com has reported that red and green, the colours mainly attributed to the problem, can usually be seen more accurately by women.

This potentially means that a female may be less likely to be involved in a collision, thusly invalidating their car insurance policy.

And this has led to Louise Cole, deputy editor of Commercial Motor, to call for stricter regulation when it comes to who can get behind the wheel.

"No-one would dream of putting an unqualified driver behind the wheel - and yet a driver whose poor sight is uncorrected may be just as dangerous," she said.

Meanwhile, studies into mobile phone use behind the wheel may have led to improved government sanctions regarding the crime.

From February 27th 2007, motorists caught chatting on the phone while on the road can be fined £60 and penalised three licence points.
