04 April 2007 Fuel-saving hints issued by Skoda

A list of tips for drivers looking to save fuel has been issued by Skoda.

The hints may see motorists make substantial savings which could help pay for other areas of motor ownership, such as car insurance.

The vehicle manufacturer has claimed that people can economise their petrol emissions - namely by driving more carefully, according to Car Pages.

Car maintenance figures prominently, as under-pressured or unequal tyres lead to a higher amount of fuel consumption, while a similar result is had if the air and oil filter are not changed regularly.

Turning off the engine while stationary - in a traffic jam, perhaps - can also help, as can choosing not to accelerate between speed ramps.

"Just by altering our driving habits we can significantly reduce fuel consumption," said Martin Burke of Skoda.

According to the World Development Movement, the north-east of England emits 34 million tonnes of carbon dioxide each year - the highest amount in the UK.
