02 April 2007 Supermarkets pick up bill for faulty fuel
Britons whose cars fell victim to the contaminated petrol scandal in the south east have recorded their delight at receiving their compensation, according to a local news provider. Many motorists claimed that their vehicles had been misfiring, losing power and juddering to a halt after filling up with the dodgy gas at Asda and Tesco forecourts, the Portsmouth Today has reported.
The fuel affected the oxygen sensors in vehicle engines, leading to a catalytic converter problem for Peter Rocchiccioli, 59, from Copse Lane, Hayling Island.
Like many other motorists, Mr Rocchicioli may have invalidated his car insurance no-claims policy by seeking repairs, but he expressed his delight with how he was compensated.
"Despite my inconvenience, I feel that they have dealt with me in a very honourable way," he said.
Following the incident in February, Tesco took out full page adverts with some national newspapers stating that they would like to pay for to fix the problems.
