02 April 2007 Driving licence price to go up
The cost of a first driving licence will increase to £45 from May 1st 2007, it has been announced.New motorists will have to pay £7 more for the permit, according to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) - in addition to road tax and car insurance.
As well as these changes, a replacement vehicle registration certificate will be £25 while the cost of switching from a paper licence to a photocard will fall to £10 from £19.
Offender re-registration will also increase, from £50 to £60, for those who are disqualified from driving and then apply for a new licence.
Meanwhile, statistics from the Belfast Telegraph show that more than a fifth of Irish motorists have accumulated licence points.
While most have picked up the minimum of two points, 80 people have collected more than 12 and have subsequently been banned from the road.
