30 March 2007 Survey reveals driver speed habits
Over half of motorists have admitted to breaking the speed limit on a regular basis in a new study published today.According to Belfast Today, the Hibernian questionnaire found that one in six respondents had driven while over the legal alcohol limit.
If a driver were to be convicted of such an offense, their car insurance policy may become compromised.
Road rage also proved to be a common feature of Briton's roads in the survey, it added.
Half of the motorists questioned claimed to have experienced abuse from fellow road-users, with a quarter confessing that they had been guilty of such behaviour themselves.
And a quarter of people admitted to breaking the law regarding mobile phone use.
Some one in four commented that they had taken calls while behind the wheel, while one in twelve pleaded guilty to reading incoming text messages on the road.
Last month, the Department for Transport introduced new sanctions to punish drivers caught using their mobile while driving.
They can now be fined £60 and penalised three licence points.
