30 March 2007 Hatcams proposed to catch lollipop deniers
Lollipop ladies will be placing cameras in their hats in order to catch dangerous drivers on film, it has been revealedThe Sun has reported that lenses costing around £900 each will be able to produce evidence that can later be used to prosecute drivers who abuse and disobey the road officials in Nuneaton - which may concern local motorists.
A driver convicted of a motoring offence could find difficulty getting a cheap car insurance premium in future.
But this is a problem that is getting worse, commented Sandra Barton, supervisor of more than 50 lollipop ladies in the North Warwickshire area.
Ms Barton welcomed the annoucement, adding that the disrespectful drivers are selfish and spout appalling abuse.
"I'm delighted that somebody is taking the matter seriously," she said.
Barry Longden, a local council official, commented: "We had to do something before a patrol warden or child lost their life."
Meanwhile, the behaviour of drivers outside a Glasgow school has caused a lollipop man to quit his job, according to the Glasgow Evening Times.
