23 March 2007 Camera-less Strabane "under review"
Car insurance customers in Northern Ireland district may be interested to know that an official in Strabane has said there is constant deliberation over whether speed cameras should be introduced to the area, it has been reported. There are currently no fixed cameras in the region, despite five fatalities on roads there over the past 16 months, according to the Strabane Chronicle.
By law, cameras can be installed at sites where at least two fatal or serious collisions have occurred, it added.
A spokesman for the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) remarked that while there are no immediate plans to bring in the devices, "the situation is kept constantly under review".
The PSNI has been running initiatives reminding drivers to keep safe on the roads, following four deaths on Fermanagh roads.
The force has stated that the bank holiday period brings with it "an increased risk for collisions", according to the Fermanagh Herald.
