20 March 2007 Fresh driving 'danger' for gamers

A new study into the dangers of video games has led to fresh links being made with erratic driving.

Some 290 people were tested in research from the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich and the Allianz Centre for Technology, with results showing subjects were liable to take risks on the road after playing driving games.

Players were found to be more aggressive behind the wheel after playing - overtaking, racing and more likely to be involved in an accident, car insurance customers may be interested to know.

The 198 men taking part were also found to be much more likely show such characteristics, the study found.

A similar study from BSM discovered that a quarter of drivers were likely to treat real-life driving like a video game.

"With more than 200 young people killed each year due to speeding alone, it's crucial that they learn to 'keep it real' on the road," said spokesman Robin Cummins.
