15 March 2007 Switching body reveals high insurance areas
A study from a consumer switching and price comparison site has revealed Britain's spenders when it comes to car insurance.According to uSwitch.com, drivers living in Manchester pay an average of £157 more than the national mean level of £406.
The city is also home to the most uninsured motorists taking to the roads in the UK, it added.
In Bristol, 1.96 per cent of insurance policy holders also have a drink-driving conviction, with the body calling it an offender black spot.
And in Leeds vehicle theft is at its most prevalent in the UK, with 11,054 claims made each year by motorists in the city.
"Insurance costs can vary from city to city," said Aron Thompson, head of insurance at uSwitch.com.
"[This shows] the impact a driver's individual profile can have on their premium," he added.
Additionally, it has also been widely speculated that the mobile phone usage regulations introduced by the Department for Transport last week could have an affect on thousands of policies nationwide.
