13 March 2007 Smoking quitters 'could save on contents insurance'

Quitting smoking could stub out some of the cost of home insurance, particularly contents cover, according to John Charcol.

In conjunction with no-smoking day tomorrow, the online mortgage broker is pointing out that kicking the habit can help reduce contents insurance as well as other forms of insurance.

It can also potentially save thousands of pounds that can be channelled into savings, debt repayments or other forms of personal finance.

Katie Tucker of John Charcol said: "There is clearly a lot to be saved if potential quitters take this approach. Coupled with savings on life assurance premiums and … some home contents insurance policies, there really is a great financial argument for not lighting up, as well as the obvious benefit to your health."

A smoking ban in all enclosed public places will come into force across the whole of the UK on July 1st this year.
