26 February 2007 Road pricing "full of problems", says RHA
Car insurance customers may be interested to know that an official body has described the government's controversial road-pricing plan as impracticable and problematic. The Road Haulage Association (RHA) has commented that the benefits of the scheme would be marginal at best, Easier has reported in news that may concern those with motor insurance.
It has been widely reported that authorities plan to introduce the initiative as a measure to reduce congestion and carbon emissions, something the RHA has called intrusive and costly.
However, there are simpler options - changing working hours and introducing a greater amount of home working, according to Roger King, chief executive of the body.
"Let's talk about reducing the burden of congestion, not about how to introduce a complex, unproven new journey tax," he said.
Meanwhile, the World Development Movement has released figures which claim that the north-east emits the most carbon dioxide in the UK - 13.6 tonnes per person.
