20 February 2007 Drink-drivers offered re-education route out of prison

Drivers caught on the road under the influence of alcohol have opted to attend re-education classes, which will cut down their sentences, it has been reported.

Nearly 50 per cent of the 699 people found to be drink-driving - something which can seriously compromise a car insurance policy - on Warwickshire roads have volunteered to attend the workshops, icCoventry has claimed.

The sessions will teach the convicts about alcohol units, absorption rates and the impact alcohol can have on health.

They will also watch a "high-impact" video.

Warwickshire course provider, Jenny Wynn, commented that the information presented in the classes was effective.

"The course has an effect on those who attend. Virtually everyone says that the information they received should be available to everyone," she said.

Statistics released by the Home Office have revealed that 3,201 people died on the roads during 2005, car insurance customers may be interested to know.
