20 February 2007 South Wales drivers urged to slow down
South Wales' roads are the most dangerous in the country and young drivers need to slow down in accordance, it has been claimed. The road safety charity Brake has revealed that 31 people aged 15-25 died on the area's highways in 2005, with 165 injured, according to the South Wales Echo.
These figures have led Pass Plus Cymru to offer extra lessons to newly-qualified motorists, the body added, in a move that could save lives as well as car insurance policies.
Jools Townsend, head of education at Brake, emphasised the importance of the honing the skills of new drivers.
"Too many young people think they are invincible and fail to consider how their actions can kill and maim themselves, their friends and other road users," he said.
Meanwhile, authorities in Suffolk have claimed that young drivers were involved in a third of motor accidents in the area in 2005, something which may affect the car insurance premiums offered to them.
