15 February 2007 More than a quarter of young motorists 'have driven without insurance'
Some 29 per cent of drivers under 30 have taking to the road without car insurance, it has been reported. The Daily Record has reported that, by comparison, 12 per cent of people in their 30s and 40s are guilty of the offence, something men are twice as likely to commit, according to moneysupermarket.com.
Furthermore, 13 per cent of all motorists have driven without car insurance, with two thirds of those surveyed doing so while behind the wheel of someone else's car, it added.
Moneysupermarket.com last week claimed that men have to wait until they reach their 30s before receiving cheaper motor insurance.
Once a male passes the milestone, the average amount paid annually drops to £543, the consumer group added.
"Younger drivers often find it hard to get competitive motor insurance, as insurers rate them as a high risk group," said Peter Gerrard, the body's insurance researcher.
