12 February 2007 Further delays in Hampshire
Motorists in Hampshire face four months of delayed and disrupted journeys as a £750,000 scheme gets underway in Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst today. The Southern Daily Echo is reporting that the work, carried out by Southern Electric Power Distribution, will reduce the risk of power cuts in the region by installing a new high-voltage cable between Lyndhurst and Ashurst.
The £750,000 development will involve the excavation of the A35, causing thousands of drivers heading into and out of Southampton to face diversions and re-routing, which may affect car insurance customers in the area, the news provider added.
And the electric company is also planning to dig up the main north-south route through the Forest as well as Gosport Lane, before finishing in May.
Meanwhile, Chris Stewart, a Hampshire boy who survived a horrific car accident, has been invited to appear on the Oprah Winfrey show.
"He's delighted and a bit surprised," his mother told the Basingstoke Gazette.
