06 February 2007 Green taxis pick up eco-message in Norwich

A new style of environmentally-friendly taxi has hit the streets of Norwich, Easier reports.

The TX4 is the same size and shape of the traditional London black cab, but it hides under its bonnet a slew of eco-friendly features designed to keep carbon emissions low, the body adds.

Car insurancecustomers may be interested to know that the VM engine inside the vehicle meets EU regulations and that it also features various safety enhancements.

And Richard Wilson, a cabbie who owns one of the new models, calls it a good taxi for both himself and his passengers.

"I hope now that more drivers will get them so Norwich can have the cleanest, newest fleets of purpose-built taxis around," he said.

Statistics from the World Development Movement state that an average of nine tonnes of carbon dioxide is emitted per person per year in the south-east.
