06 February 2007 Bad hospital parkers to get tickets

Visitors to a Lancashire hospital could receive a ticket from a traffic warden if their parking is incorrect, a local news provider has reported.

Bosses at Royal Blackburn and Burnley General have instructed the officials to fine motorists for parking over white lines, not displaying tickets clearly and parking in unauthorised areas, the Lancashire Telegraph claimed.

A vehicle offence can have an affect on a driver's car insurance policy, while the news will come as a blow to regular visitors to the medial centre who last month, the body added, saw parking prices increase by 20 per cent.

And Burnley council leader Gordon Birtwistle called the move a "racket" to gain money for private firms.

"It is ridiculous [that] the hospital charge people to park at a facility they have paid [for] through their taxes anyway," he told the group.

The finance company easyMoney.com last week revealed that more than one in ten Britons were unaware of what their car insurance covered.
