24 January 2007 Highways Agency: Take care in continuing cold

Fresh warnings about the dangers of driving in the current cold weather conditions, given by the Highways Agency, could be of interest to car insurance customers.

The south-east will be particularly badly hit, with sleet and snow showers expected over the next few days, the organisation says.

Drivers have been advised to check the conditions of the road and the weather forecast before making a journey, as well as adapting to the hazards that might be faced, the body states.

Furthermore, the group suggests car insurance customers prepare a winter weather kit of warm clothes, hot drinks, a torch, de-icer and a spade - in the event of an emergency.

Local councils will attempt to make the roads more manageable by employing gritters as well as maintenance teams to help motorists should the need arise.

The notice is the latest of a series issued by the agency this year - with many having already warned of severe winds and icy surfaces.
