23 January 2007 Driver welfare 'surprise' fleet concern

The health and safety of motorists is of top concern to fleet management professionals, according to a survey by a car leasing company.

Road safety was the biggest issue raised in the poll, conducted by Lex and reported by Easier, with 39 per cent of fleet managers stating it as their primary worry - something which could affect car insurance policies.

This figure is down by nine per cent on numbers released last year and was closely followed, at 38 per cent, by running costs.

Running a greener company registered the biggest upturn in interest in 2006, with 29 per cent seeing it as a key issue, the third most important for fleets.

"In many respects we were surprised that going green didn't come out top of the survey, bearing in mind the exposure this issue has had over the past 12 months," said Lex' managing director, John Walden.

According to the World Development Movement, Greater London emits of total of 53 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, or 74 million tonnes for every person living in the area.
