23 January 2007 Study: Off-road cars more unreliable
Car insurance customers may be interested to know that the 4x4 is the world's most unreliable type of car, according to a study by Warranty Direct.Reliability was measured in terms of the number of failures reported for every 100 warranty policies in cars three to nine years old, the company stated.
Of the 450,000 vehicles from 33 manufacturers available in the UK and USA, Easier reports, Jeep and Land Rover came bottom of the list, with almost one in two customers reporting faults within 12 months of ownership, Easier reports.
Top of the table for reliability was Mazda, recording a failure frequency of 8.04 per cent - one of eight far east manufacturers making the top ten, the figures showed.
"This is unique data based on real cars, driving real miles, over the past five years. It is the kind of information manufacturers would probably rather you didn't see," said Duncan McClure Fisher, managing director of the automotive group.
CarSupermarket.co.uk reports the most popular model of car being bought in the UK to be the Ford Focus.
