18 January 2007 Bickering 'could lead to accidents'
Arguing with a partner while driving could end up costing motorists money on their car insurance, research claims.A study from Direct Line insurance says that 74 per cent of couples admit to bickering on the road, with 60 per cent of those admitting the disputes distract the driver.
The survey, consisting of 2,516 adults, also found that one in eight will speed in the aftermath of an altercation.
Men are most likely criticise to woman's skill behind the wheel, while women, it is reported, note their partner's speeding as a factor of in-car spats.
But both sexes could face higher car insurance premiums if involved in an accident.
"Be careful how you go about offering your opinion on their driving - argumentative passengers not only cause unnecessary stress, but could be distracting which leads to accidents," said Emma Holyer of Direct Line.
Statistics from the Department of Transport show that 3,221 deaths and serious injures occurred on the road in 2004.
