11 January 2007 Highways Agency: Beware wet weather
Car and van insurance customers should beware of the wet weather predicted by the Met Office, the Highways Agency has warned.Drivers in the north should be especially careful, according to the organisation, with 70 mph winds expected in addition to the heavy rain.
The rain, as well as the spray caused by it, can be hazardous as it reduces visibility and increases braking distances.
"Drivers should ease off the accelerator and slow down gradually," the organisation says.
An accident may cause motor insurance customers to face increased insurance premiums.
"It will be wet and windy throughout this week. There are several storms developing to the west of the British Isles," a spokesman from the Met Office told the Daily Express.
Meanwhile, homes and businesses were flooded when Whitney and surrounding villages were hit by 35mm of rain, half of January's average rainfall, the Oxford Mail reports.
