09 January 2007 Motor crime crackdown in Wakefield
The South East Neighbourhood Policing Team (SENPT) will launch a three-day operation to combat vehicle crime in the Wakefield area, which may come as good news to those with high car insurance premiums.Beginning on Tuesday January 9th, the initiative will see officers monitor undocumented drivers, crack down on vehicles involved in crime and, in conjunction with the Vehicle Nuisance Team, deal with incidents involving off-road motorcycles.
"Nuisance behaviour caused by off-road bikes will not be tolerated," said Mark Bownass, acting inspector for the SENPT.
If successful, the move could have a positive effect on local motor insurance.
Councillor Olivia Rowley, cabinet member for Community Safety and Cohesion, said Wakefield Council is "working very hard to reduce the crime and anti-social behaviour that so often comes with it".
"Wakefield Council takes vehicle nuisance very seriously."
In December, West Yorkshire Police, under which the SENPT operates, made their 500th arrest and charge using information gathered from Crimestoppers.
