08 January 2007 Insurer reveals year's goofiest claims
Lloyd's TSB Insurance has revealed the most unusual car insurance claims they received during 2006.One of the strangest accidents involved a driver who damaged his left rear passenger door while turning his car into his driveway. This may be considered a common occurrence - except in this instance as the driver hadn't noticed the door was in fact open and had been open during the entire ten minute journey.
Another driver, returning from holiday, pressed his accelerator pedal only for it to become stuck - leading him to crash through his garden wall and roll down a hill.
Such claims are inevitable according to Phil Longley, managing director of the car insurance company.
"We may try and anticipate accidents to help make our lives as safe as possible, yet as our postbag shows; we cannot prevent all accidents from happening, no matter how careful we are," he said.
Last week, transport minister Stephen Ladyman told the Times that the government may implement tougher driving tests.
