21 December 2006 Tyre safety body could help prevent van accidents

Tyresafe, a new tyre safety promotion body, has been developed by the Tyre Industry Council (TIC) in the hope that better tyre awareness among van drivers could lead to a reduction in accidents.

Aimed primarily at the fleet van market, Tyresafe hopes to become a national reference point for all issues involving tyre safety and will be the first point of contact for tyre safety-related enquires.

A spokesman for the body commented: "Tyresafe will address the challenges facing the tyre industry and in particular, corporate responsibility and duty-of-care legislation relating to tyres and their use."

With the ultimate goal of reducing the number of van-related accidents on the road, it is hoped that drivers will also notice a benefit in their wallets, as the cost of their van insurance could lower as a result.

Tyresafe is currently planning a scheduled roll-out of a variety of safety initiatives due to start in the new year.
