15 December 2006 Motorists spend 3 days chasing car insurance claims
Accident Exchange claims that the average motorist will spend the equivalent of three working days chasing up insurers, garages, car rental firms and third parties when trying to resolve the issues involved with a car accident. This means that the UK as a whole is wasting £1 billion of work hours each year in time spent attempting to resolve a car insurance claim.
Drivers spend the longest period of time on the phone to insurance companies, whether its their own or the third party's, clocking up an average of eight hours of call time in all.
Steve Evans, chief executive of Accident Exchange, commented: "With so many disparate parties involved in the chain it is easy to see how the hours turn into days.
The report also revealed that over 10,000 incidents are recorded every day, ranging from car park bumps and scrapes to major traffic incidents.
This means that the UK's drivers spend 98 million hours trying to get themselves back on the highways each year, costing employers £75 for each day that the long-suffering motorist has to take off in order to sort out their insurance claims, hire cars and garage repairs.
