13 December 2006 Van drivers concerned by environment
In a recent survey carried out by GE Commercial Finance, 75 per cent of van drivers highlighted environmental concerns as a key factor in fleet policy, up 25 per cent on the previous year, proving that green worries are even reaching the commercial fleet industries. The results, published by Fleet News, have led experts to state that the van and lorry industry is on the "tipping point" of going completely green, despite the fact that 14 per cent have yet to put any eco-friendly policies into effect.
Aptly-named Rich Green, managing director at GE Fleet Services, said: "Our view is that the next two years in fleet will belong to environmental concerns in the same way that the last two have belonged to duty of care."
He added that many fleet firms have already taken steps to reduce the amount of carbon their drivers produce with efficient driving training and said that many more were considering taking green action, although a lack of education meant that many were "unsure of their next step".
Green driving is predicted to lower the cost of van insurance premiums as many car insurance firms now offer discounts for environmentally friendly motorists.
