11 December 2006 Faulty brakes leads to 300,000 Passats being recalled
Volkswagen has been forced to recall over 300,000 of its Passat models worldwide after the brakes were found to be faulty, with approximately 43,000 of them being based in the UK.The 200 horse power engine version is reported to be suffering from a flawed power brake vacuum line that may fracture at low ambient temperatures, resulting in the brake power assist becoming inoperative.
Faulty brakes are extremely dangerous and could cause an accident which won't only put up your car insurance, but could also prove fatal.
Windscreen wipers and radiators are also suspected of being defective in the models manufactured from 2005. Diesel-powered versions are also being recalled due to suspected fuel leakages
Owners of the vehicles affected will receive a letter asking them to return their vehicle to Volkswagen for testing. If the faults are found to be present, Volkswagen assures motorists it will only take an hour to fix.
