14 November 2006 Car insurance claims set to increase
A surge in car insurance claims for incidents is expected in the coming months according to the Accident Exchange Group, chiefly caused by the evenings getting darker.
In a recent analysis, the company's figures showed a record number of claims handled for the month of October and it expected a further increase in the next few months.
Poor visibility and slippery roads were also factors attributed to the high number of insurance claims expected.
The company, which supplies and replaces cars and vans to car insurance brokers, commented: "The board considers the group's business to be seasonal in nature with the darker, wetter winter months (October through March) historically showing an uplift in trading levels."
This was said to be due to increased accident rates, longer repair periods and consequently longer hire periods for each accident.
Motoring analysts all recognise the need for greater vigilance and care at this time of year, with the cold weather affecting the roads as well as the driver's visibility and the maintenance of their car.
Drivers are advised to make sure they have breakdown cover in case of emergencies and have adequate car insurance.
