01 November 2006 Honda defends 4x4s
Not all 4x4s are dirty, big gas-guzzlers, manufacturer Honda has claimed at the launch of a new campaign.
Defending the new CR-V 4x4, Honda is issuing 'not all 4x4s are the same' stickers to the customer insisting that its latest edition is cleaner, smaller and safer than other 'Chelsea tractors'.
John Kingston, environment manager at Honda (UK), says not all 4x4s should be labelled in the same bracket.
"The 'one size fits all' approach of anti-4x4 protesters is confusing," he said.
"Some customers have expressed their concerns and frustration about being criticised for driving a CR-V – no surprise when you consider this Honda is incredibly clean, not a gas-guzzler, smaller than most 4x4s and is remarkably safe for both passengers and pedestrians."
Honda also claims that the CR-V is not just cleaner than other SUVs but has lower emissions than some large estates, hatchbacks and even a Mini Cooper S, although not the latest eco-friendly model.
With the new Honda offering also deemed to be safer than other 4x4s, it could help motorists keep down their car insurance costs.
