26 October 2006 Car park designers 'must improve quality'

A regeneration agency has released a statement claiming that car parks must be better designed in order to provide safer, more efficient, attractive car parks.

English Partnerships will be taking its roadshow, based on its publication 'Car Parking: what works where', across the country from November 9th. The tour will visit Bristol, Milton Keynes and Warrington.

As well as discussing the most attractive and innovative designs for car parks, the agency wants to examine how to make car parks safer for residential users.

In addition, the agency wants to spark debates on consumer related issues like street parking versus off street parking and allocated spaces versus unallocated spaces.

Car park crime is on the rise and safer car parks could lead to a reduction in car insurance premiums.

To protect cars from break-ins and vandalism, always close the windows and sunroof, lock all doors and activate any security devices when leaving the car unattended, always lock valuables away or take them out of the car and if possible, park in a well lit area to put off potential burglars.
