09 October 2006 Snake for car protection
A Serbian man has taken a novel approach to protecting his car.Instead of relying on the tried and tested methods of having an alarm fitted or using a steering lock to prevent thieves from taking his vehicle, he has been using a six-foot snake.
Radovan Darkic was using the beast to protect his Mercedes E-Class when he went to work every evening at the pet shop he owns in Belgrade, reports Ananova.
However, Mr Darkic's plans came unstuck when his pet snake escaped, leading to a large-scale police search and eventually the owner's arrest.
The snake managed to escape through a small opening in the window and Mr Darkic himself had to call the police as he feared someone may get hurt.
"I only wanted to make sure that even if I couldn't take revenge on anyone who dared to rob my car then at least the snake could do it for me," he said.
It is unclear whether Mr Darkic's car insurance provider was aware that he used a snake as protection for his vehicle, but conventional safety methods are advised when attempting to secure a car.
