25 September 2006 Man due in court charged with police death
A man charged with causing the death of a policeman is to appear in court to face trial.Mark McKenzie, from Exmouth in Exeter, is accused of driving dangerously, unlawfully possessing an imitation firearm and driving without car insurance.
Mr McKenzie was charged in relation to an incident in April when a van collided with a motorcycle leading to the death of the motorcyclist, sergeant Paul Hutchinson, reports website This is Exeter.
The case will be heard at Exeter Crown Court after Mr McKenzie was told the charges are too serious to be dealt with by magistrates.
The 37-year-old is due back in court to face the death by dangerous driving charge and the driving without insurance charge on September 29th, the case regarding the firearm
At the time of the accident, Sergeant Hutchinson was travelling to work from the home he shared with his pregnant partner.
Sergeant Hutchinson was one of two neighbourhood beat managers in Exmouth and was in charge of more than 20 constables, community support officers and station inquiry staff.
