22 September 2006 Community service for uninsured driver

A motorist caught driving without car insurance has been sentenced to 120 hours of community service.

Artur Richert was sentenced by magistrates in Slough after he was stopped by police back in July.

The prosecution claimed Mr Richert admitted to police at the time that he was not insured to be driving the vehicle.

"He was then arrested. Further enquiries revealed that the defendant was barred from driving," said Austin Jackpo.

Mr Richert had previously been banned from driving in November 2005, but magistrates took onboard the fact that he admitted his guilt at the earliest opportunity.

Upon sentencing him, chair of the Magistrates Bench, Trudie Lowe, explained why Mr Richert would be required to do community service.

"Our reason for imposing the sentence is the seriousness of the offence and the purpose of the sentence is as protection for the public," she said.

Mr Richert also received six points on his licence and has been ordered to pay £43 costs towards prosecution.
