15 September 2006 Is your child seat insured?
As the new law concerning the use of child car seats comes into effect on September 18th motorists are being warned to double check their car insurance policy.Research shows that as many as 16 per cent of insurance policies do not cover child seats in cars and if the worst should happen many people could be left out of pocket, reports the Daily Mail.
Drivers who do not adhere to the new child car seats law will face a £30 fixed penalty notice, or should the case go to court, a £500 fine.
The law states that children under the age of 12, or below the height of four foot, five inches, must be restrained in a child seat.
Statistics show that many people are not covered for having a child seat fitted in their car and drivers are being urged to check their policy and make sure they have the correct cover.
A child car seat can cost anything up to and beyond £100 and after an accident, forking out for a now vital seat may be the last thing most people need.
