13 September 2006 Man lets 10-year-old drive car
A British businessman living in Hong Kong has been banned from driving after letting his child get behind the wheel.Matt Burden was seen in the passenger seat of his Toyota, while his ten-year-old son drove slowly along a public road, reports the South China Morning Post.
Mr Burden, who is director of the Hong Kong removals company Relocasia, appeared in court on September 12th and pleaded guilty to allowing an unlicensed driver to use his car.
He was also found guilty of not having the correct car insurance cover as he did not posses third-party insurance.
During his defence, Mr Burden's lawyer claimed the director's son is a big car enthusiast and the crime arose from "the wellspring of fatherly devotion".
The lawyer also said Mr Burden was in control of the accelerator and brakes at all times and never allowed the car to go above ten kilometres per hour.
In addition to a one-year driving ban, Mr Burden was also fined HK$5,000 (£343).
