Industry News from Yes Insurance

04 September 2006 Is the motor industry becoming more female friendly?

Many car manufacturers are turning their attentions to female drivers after research detailed that women feel alienated from dealers.

A report by EurotaxGlass shows that, despite accounting for 45 per cent of all drivers and 80 per cent of car buying decisions, the majority of women feel alienated and believe they receive poor customer service.

A number of car manufacturers are already making headway to make women feel more welcome, but more needs to be done.

Female car insurance premiums have set an example of how women can have their motoring needs and behaviour catered to and the rest of the industry is beginning to follow suit.

"Change cannot happen overnight, but with most of the potential growth in the market predicted to be in sales to women over the next 15 years, it's absolutely fundamental that the industry gives women the attention they deserve," says Collette Dunkley who chairs the FBI steering committee at General Motors.

"It's important to understand that women respond to different types of communication and they have quite different purchasing behaviour to men."
