11 August 2006 Boiler bubbles over
A bubbling over boiler has highlighted the need for homeowners to take out home insurance to cover the unexpected.Elana Grossi left the east Grinstead guesthouse she ran to go for a walk but returned to find her guests huddled outside waiting with the fire brigade.
"I never usually go out in the evening but that night I was out walking in the woods in East Grinstead. I wanted a bit of peace and quiet and so I didn't take my mobile phone with me," she told website icSurreyOnline.
"When I came back, they were all huddled on the road."
Firemen had to isolate the electricity after the boiler vented into the roof and could have caused serious damage to her home and business, which would have left her at a loss if she lacked home cover.
Home emergency policies can offer protection against this and other unexpected emergencies, such as wasp nests or vermin, while typical heatcover policies can cover hot water systems.
