Businesses have teamed up with police and other agencies to help reduce car theft.

Through the Safer Car Park Award, businesses are encouraged to join the scheme which would give their employees peace of mind during the working day.

PC Dave Cooper from Avon & Somerset Constabulary explained how it worked: "To gain the award the parking operator has put in place measures that help to deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour, thereby doing everything they can to prevent crime and reduce the fear of crime in their parking area."

Through the Park Mark Safer Parking scheme, risks to vehicles are assessed by police and award-winning car parks are put onto a national database.

With this information available on the internet, motorists can find out where they can safely park their car.

And with safer parking spots, the chance of having to claim on any third party, fire and theft insurance policy is reduced.
