27 June 2006 Young drivers at risk on roundabouts
Young drivers do not pay attention at roundabouts and are putting themselves and others at risk, according to the latest research.A study by website CarPages shows that many motorists are uncomfortable dealing with roundabouts and are failing to follow basic rules.
The results of the report mean young drivers in particular are in danger of being involved in an accident and increasing their car insurance premiums.
Many drivers were found to completely ignore the car in front of them, instead concentrating on vehicles coming from the right.
This can cause problems if the car in front does not pull out when the driver behind might anticipate it to.
Young drivers are being encouraged to go back to basics and check both ways and ahead, as well as all the mirrors, to ensure that they are completely aware of the situation around them.
Being involved in a rear end shunt can lead to injury for the driver and any passengers and can also mean a claim has to be made on their motor insurance.
