26 June 2006 Overloading causes car accidents
Motorists who overload their cars are increasing their chances of having to make a claim on their car insurance.
Those who carry extra weight in their vehicles are taking the risk of having a serious accident as the suspension on their car 'bottoms out'.
This can lead to loss of steering control, brakes becoming ineffective and the blinding of other drivers due to raised headlights.
The most common culprits of 'bottoming out' are families setting out on holiday.
"At this time of year it is especially common to find holiday makers with overloaded vehicles being involved in an accident. With just a little preparation thousands of accidents could be avoided and some lives saved," says Mark Cornwall of Car Parts Direct.
Mail order specialists Car Parts Direct have launched a range of products which can help reduce the effects of overloading of a vehicle and prevent drivers from having to claim on their insurance.
The products are designed to improve a vehicle's suspension and ensure the driver maintains full control of the car.
